We’ve won the regular season – a 9–4 victory over Vasas!

In the final round of the Andersen League’s regular season, we hosted Vasas SC at home at the Győr University Ice Sports Centre. The situation was clear: if we won in normal time, we would finish the regular season at the top of the table. We took to the ice with that mindset and capped off the regular season with a confident performance.

First period

Good pace, dominance, and a quick response to the goal conceded. We started at a fast pace and kept our opponents under constant pressure, but our finishing wasn’t quite sharp enough at the start. We were playing with a man advantage when, following a turnover, Vasas took the lead through Bulcsú Lászlóffy (2).

Fortunately, we managed to equalise whilst still enjoying that man advantage: Benedek Madácsi (18) scored. In the closing stages of the half, Barnabás Dézsi (6) finished off an attack beautifully, meaning we went into the break with a lead.

Second period

A flurry of goals and Győr’s dominance. Things picked up a pace in the second twenty minutes. Five minutes in, we scored a quick brace: Bence Dézsi (51) and then Márk Almási (59) found the net.

Shortly afterwards, István Szűcs (97) extended the lead, whilst the visitors pulled one back through Botond Lászlóffy (7). Bence Dézsi scored his second goal, and Vasas’s Szabó (3) replied whilst his side had a man advantage, but at the end of the period Márk Almási also scored his second, meaning we went into the final period with a comfortable lead.

Third period

An early goal by the visitors, followed by a well-worked finish. Vasas started the final period more energetically, with Lambert (39) reducing the deficit with a quick goal. We managed to regroup, and midway through the period Martin Sipák (7) found the net. We maintained firm control of the game thereafter, didn’t let our opponents get close, and saw out the match confidently. In the closing stages, a minute and a half before the final whistle, Martin Sipák scored again following a fine team move, rounding off a two-goal night for him.

Overview

We won the regular season with a 9–4 victory (2–1, 5–2, 2–1), and we can look forward to the play-offs from the top of the table in this year’s Andersen League. The team demonstrated its mental strength and the effectiveness of its attacking play right up to the end of the season.

The play-offs kick off next week, where we’ll face FTC-Telekom in a best-of-three series to secure a place in the last four. Our first home match will be held on 13 March at the Győr University Ice Sports Centre.
